Summary: Leads and directs all business development activities for the region by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervision/direction.
This position will also be essential and responsible for building the Puerto Rico trade lane to and from the island.
The position could also be located outside of ATL based on experience and sales history of the candidate.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for business development goals of the region as it relates to expanded business and new business growth. In tandem with management, formulate the regional P&L budget and insures profitability of the region.
Manages the sales staff and sales activities of the region, including administrative reporting, performance evaluation, training, sales skills, product knowledge and all sales related requirements.
Actively assist with account executives business development needs in joint sales efforts; facilitating resources to assist all sales activity efforts in successfully growing business.
Develops and oversees the development of new programs in line with the Strategic Plan and niche marketing opportunities pertinent to the business growth in the region especially experienced in the Puerto Rico trade market.
Responsible for developing and growing their own target accounts as defined by their manager.
Insures all proposals and tariffs adhere to freight margin guidelines.
Actively participates in the development and implementation of change and innovations for improving productivity and the quality of service.
Responsible for staffing, employee relations, and personnel decisions.
Number of subordinates will depend on size of station and volume of business. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school degree or equivelant. Minimum 7 years related sales and/or transportation experience, including 3 years supervisory experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Leadership skills are essential to this position. College degree preferred.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret tariffs, general business periodicals, professional journals and manuals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Proficiency in Spanish preferred.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to calculate and apply concepts such as dimensionalized weight, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Strong organizational & leadership skills.
Competent in PC & internet skills
Competent knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Word, Windows).
Competent in use of PCs and software for preparation of presentations.
Requires frequent travel, both local and overnight. Ability to travel by air to Puerto Rico and other countries required.
