Overview

Overview:

Performs various pricing and traffic related functions.  Works with customers, sales, customer service and operations departments to establish pricing and operational strategies for specific opportunities.  Develops and quotes rates and pricing for transportation and logistics services. Assists Customer Service in quoting related functions.  Coordinates the movement of truckload and LTL shipments throughout the system.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Quotes prices and other terms and creates bookings for orders obtained.  Coordinates movement of LTL and truckload shipments throughout the system.  Develops relationships and negotiates price and service options with partner carriers.  Tracks shipments while in transit and insures that service commitments are met.  Resolves billing issues with partner carriers.  Audits invoices from partner carriers and customer bills for accuracy.  Performs Pricing audits.  Responsible for completion of related paperwork, communications, and customer service activities.

 

Prepares or helps others prepare pricing proposals and bids for individual customers.  Develops and documents pricing quotes for truckload, LTL, over-dimension and special project moves, both within and beyond the Lynden Transport direct service area.

 

Presents information and responds to questions regarding quotes and freight movements from managers, co-workers, and customers both verbally and in writing. 

 

Coordinates and confers with Director of Pricing, and Operations and Sales Departments to determine operational options and develop strategies to produce maximum profit.  Keeps informed of trends and activities occurring within the industry.  Analyzes traffic patterns and competitive rates and helps develop strategies to improve profitability.  Confers with customers to evaluate and promote improved and expanded services.  Ensures professional handling of the company's product and services.

 

Maintains knowledge of the NMFC and partner carrier rules.

 

Assists Customer Service in quoting.

 

Reviews and is familiar with tariff and contract provisions and helps develop new provisions as required. 

 

Responsible for compliance with departmental and company policies.

 

Assists in the development of RFP responses.

 

May assist in special projects as requested.

 

Records, and enters information on company computer system as required.  Makes inquiries from computer system.  Operates various business machines.  Maintains details of business transactions or other records as required. Answers telephones and e-mail messages and gives information to callers or requestors.

Bills shipments and updates shipment statuses.

 

Dependable and consistent attendance required.

 

Ability to work in a fast paced, rapid turn-over enviornment required.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Associates of Arts degree (A.A.) required, bachelor's degree (B.A.) preferred,  with emphasis on marketing, management or transportation studies, or five years related experience and/or training in carrier pricing functions; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel and Word; ability to learn and use other software tools, including companies proprietary software.

 

Ability to read, analyze and interpret tariffs, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to present information and respond to questions from managers, co-workers, and customers quickly and effectively. 

 

Ability to apply mathematical, financial and statistical concepts such as used in cost analysis and operations modeling.  Examples include the application of basic concepts such as applications of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.  Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and density.

 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend appropriate solutions.  Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

 

Ability to work well with others.

 

Position requires ability to write, use keyboard and 10-key efficiently.  Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Must be able to conduct e-mail and telephone communication for extended periods.  Must be able to sit, stand or walk for extended periods.
