SUMMARY: Perform complex mechanical repairs on heavy duty equipment such as high capacity (50+ton) lift trucks, trucks, tractors, power generation sets, loaders, compressors, freight moving equipment and product transfer systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Inspect equipment, analyze trouble and plan sequence of repair process and timing.
Adjust, repair and/or replace parts in engines, transmissions, differentials, brakes and other equipment.
Adjust or repair hydraulic systems and components.
Perform scheduled and non-scheduled work to support barge and fleet needs.
Record daily repairs in M&R maintenance software.
Analyze performance of equipment.
Perform field and roads repairs as required.
Communicate in writing (email) or verbally over the phone with individuals in remote sites who are attempting to repair equipment
Respond and acknowledge repair request and investigate complaints and equipment malfunctions.
Have an in-depth understanding of the relationship between PM activities and lowest cost fleet maintenance/operations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
2 year vocational/technical degree in Diesel Technology is preferred
Experience and considerable knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of various types of heavy equipment, lift trucks and other driven equipment and tools.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence while communicate effectively with other employees, vendors and customers.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage and apply those concepts to work related situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must have strong troubleshooting/diagnostic skills, be proactive in identifying and correcting problems with equipment, and possess a strong attention to detail.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Valid driver’s license and good driving record is preferred. Must be eligible to apply and be issued a TWIC (Transportation Workers Identification Card) Able to meet forklift certification requirements (training available).
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Able to travel to Alaska occasionally for repair of machines with mechanical breakdowns or training of on-site individuals or catch up of backlogged work.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands and fingers to hold, handle, objects, tools, or to key data entry; reach with hands and arms to clean, spray or perform repairs; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl with legs and knees; and talk or hear while communicating using telephones or radios. The employee frequently is required to walk and climb or balance. Employee is regularly required to climb ladders and use fall protection. The employee is regularly required to use eyes, ears, arms, hands, legs, and feet to safely operate motor powered vehicles.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus while working in safety sensitive environments.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and may be required to wear air purifying respirator. The noise levels in the different work environments are from quiet to very loud.
