Overview

Summary: Alaska heavy civil contractor is looking for a Superintendent with strong asphalt paving project managerial experience for their asphalt paving operations as well as other heavy civil road and airport projects.  Must have proficient knowledge of asphalt mix designs, all aspects of asphalt paving projects from plant production and hauling to lay down and compaction of asphalt and milling operations as well as job setup/coordination, quality, yield control, production, hiring and cost control.  This position will generally handle only one project at a time and will require full time on-site participation in the project.

  • Direct project supervision.
  • Plan for equipment, materials and manpower needs on projects.
  • Maintain site safety and/or quality control records.
  • Assist in estimating on projects; between field work assignments.
  • Working knowledge of project plans, specifications, contract with Owner, subcontracts, purchase orders, daily correspondence, shop drawings, submittals, and all other project related documents.
  • Ensure timely project completion through project scheduling, expediting of material deliveries.
  • Ensure that all requirements of safety and Equal Employment Opportunity are met.      
  • Proactively identify and solve problems to minimize risk.
  • Develop and mentor subordinates towards a successful career with the company.
  • Ensure safety initiatives are in force and followed at all times.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Five+ years of experience as a Superintendent in construction with an emphasis on asphalt paving construction. Federal Construction experiences a plus.
  • Familiar with Federal and State specifications
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and profit/loss responsibility
  • Complete understanding of construction techniques.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Word and Excel programs.
  • Excellent communication skills -- written and oral.
  • Organized, dependable, proactive and punctual.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a variety of personality types.
  • Flexible and willing to travel to various job sites, mostly in remote Alaska, with potential for other locations.
  • Demonstrated success in managing large construction projects.
  • Good understanding of rock quality and gradation.
  • Pre hIre drug screening and background check
