Assist AMT Terminal Manager with day to day basic operational duties and administrative requirements of the terminal. The position is a seasonal one spanning May through October. Position reports directly to AMT Naknek Service Center Manager with functional responsibility to the Western Alaska Logistics Coordinator in Seattle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned:


  • Attendance and timeliness are an essential function of this position.
  • Account for all cargo and equipment received and discharged at the terminal.
  • Check off cargo during barge operations.
  • Create proper documentation of all freight received and transloaded including load sheets, bills of lading, labels, inspection sheets etc.

  • Use company operating systems for booking, receiving and loading cargo.
  • Work with Western Alaska Logistics Coordinator and Western Alaska Customer Service to ensure that payment is made for collect shipments before cargo is released or at the time of receiving.
  • Ability to look up customer account/invoice information in Sutwik for collect shipments.
  • Print delivery receipts for Naknek and the surrounding villages serviced from Naknek.
  • Travel as needed to assist with cargo and barge operations in surrounding Western Alaska hub ports and Anchorage.
  • Get all delivery receipts signed, make appropriate notes/reports regarding damage, work done by AML, etc. and scan into Doc send
  • Maintain accurate records, i.e. trucking, dispatching, equipment inventory, manifests, etc.
  • Maintain proper documentation of hazardous or waste materials.
  • Communicate with Port regarding docking of vessels and provide the city with cargo manifests and dangerous cargo manifests for mainline barges and literage vessles
  • Communicate with vessels via radio.
  • Work closely with and maintain good communication with associates providing lighterage and trucking services in Naknek.
  • Use company operating system to in-gate and out-gate AML’s equipment.
  • Use Crossdock to help track and update cargo locations in Sutwik.
  • Provide equipment control information regarding containers/platforms locations as needed or through equipment inventory as requested.
  • Use Microsoft Visio to account for equipment per voyage with a stow plan.
  • Work with all other AML offices to ensure all paperwork is received and in order to provide reports as requested.
  • Provide customer service to all customers both external and internal.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.

High School Diploma; some work related experience desirable but not required. Experience in the transportation industry is preferred.



Ability to read and interpret documents such as Bills of Lading, Delivery Receipts, military documents, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with customers and co-workers.  Strong communication skills both verbally and in written form.



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.



  • Basic computer skills: Foxfire Common Carrier, Foxfire Equipment Control, Sutwik, Microsoft Excel, Word, Visio and Outlook.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change.
  • Ability to multi task.
  • Hazardous materials training.
  • Detail oriented, good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Must be flexible to work extended hours.
  • Must be willing to reside in Bethel throughout the season.
  • Must have reasonable forklift skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk while moving around the areas of the terminal. The employee is regularly required to use hands, arms and fingers to perform the normal duties of the job such as inspecting equipment or entering computer data.  The employee is regularly required to talk and hear while communicating with telephones, radios and in person.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel or crouch around equipment and facilities. The employee may occasionally be required to move or lift up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus during the normal course of the job. 


The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and working around moving machinery.



While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles.


The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
