Overview

Handles all aspects of customer service associated with the movement of freight.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

  • Communicate with customers, vendors, and intra-company departments via phone and email to ensure all customer needs are met while following applicable laws and policies. 
  • Assist with customer inquiries & special handling/data entry/billing requirements to solve customer problems.
  • Meet customer and company deadlines.
  • Support for both inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Quote customers and follow-up on quotes.
  • Take and dispatch pickups.
  • Verify accurate customer profiles for operations to meet customer requirements.
  • Verify accurate information to meet Federal government regulations as required for the proper handling/movement of the customer’s freight.
  • Coordinate and assist with sales department for special customer requirements; such as, billing and shipment information.
  • Coordinate and assist with International exports.
  • Heavy phone work and multi-tasking.
  • Flexibility required to cover peak business times.
  • Predictable and consistent attendance.
  • Weekend on-call responsibilities based on a rotating on-call schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school education or equivalent and five years progressive work experience including 1-3 year's customer service; or a four year degree plus one year customer service experience.  Business degree preferred.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, comprehend, and write routine instructions, correspondence, and memos.  Ability to read and interpret documents such as tariffs, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Excellent telephone and written & verbal interpersonal skills to effectively present information in writing and in person in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate freight rates and amounts such percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic mathematics to calculate percentages, discounts, and freight rates, including the effect of dimensional weight.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in non-standardized situations, and able to solve unusual problems.  Ability to develop alternative solutions.

 

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Intermediate user of MS Office products

Familiar with 10-key

Good organizational skills

The noise level in the office work environment is moderate to loud.  The warehouse and dock area is extremely noisy.
